Shattered

by Tigress Parker

Parker was jerked out of the dream. She and her mother were under a tree talking. When she turned away from her mother for a second she disappeared. She then started to walk around calling out for her. She stumbled across a large gray marble headstone with PARKER printed across the top in large letters. The young Miss Parker started screaming.

That’s when she woke up. She thought it might have been Thomas that woke her. He usually wakes her up when she’s having a nightmare, but he wasn’t beside her. She shook her head ignoring the fact she couldn’t figure out what woke her. She got out of bed and walked to the bathroom while she was putting her dressing gown on.

The shower was running, so naturally Parker presumed that Thomas was in there and she started to open up. "Use all the hot water and I’ll kill you." She washes and dries her face. "I know it’s not easy living with someone like me, I’ve got more baggage than an airport. But I want you and me to work. I’m committed to making you and me work." She turns round, leaning on the sink and staring at the floor. "I just spilt my guts all over the imported Italian tiles; the LEAST you could give me is a grunt." She laughs gently. "Tommy?" She opens the shower curtain and the smile on her face disappears. "Tommy?" Parker asks more urgently and leaves the bathroom.

When Parker is walking across the living room, it has been completely trashed. Papers are lying all over the floor, chairs tipped over and generally looking like a tornado went through her living room. She walks over to the opened front door, but something on the floor makes her lose her balance and she takes a step back. She touched the floor. Blood. "Oh God!" She ran around the house looking for him frantically.

When she found him, he was leaning limply against the wall of the house, his arms hanging lifelessly at his sides while a pool of his own blood surrounded him. "TOMMY!" Parker screamed. "I need help here!" She yelled at the man who was on the road in front of her house, walking around his truck.

"There’s been a murder. No, you can’t have my name. Just hurry!" He hung up his cell phone and got in his truck and drove away.

"No, you can’t leave me now! I need you!" She cried as she held his head against his shoulder. She gently stroked his head as she rocked back and forth, continuing to weep.

Parker Manor:
10 minutes later.

3 cop cars plus an unmarked dark blue car pulled up in front of the house with an ambulance. All sirens blaring. One of the detectives that exited the unmarked car walked up the front steps of the porch and towards Parker and Thomas. "Get away from us!" She snarled as him as soon as she saw him before he could speak.

"It’s all right. I’m going to help you." He said gently as he knelt down a few feet away from her.

"We don’t need your help! Go away!" She screamed and clutched Thomas tighter. "He’s only cut his head. He’ll be waking up in a minute. But he’s so cold. I have to keep him warm." She tucked his head under her chin and hugged him tightly.

"Miss, he’s gone. There’s nothing you can do. Just let me take you down to the car and get you checked out." The detective made a movement towards her but had to stop when it just made her more agitated.

"Go away! He’s gonna wake up! He loves me. He wouldn’t leave me!" She cried as she stroked his head gently. "Come on, Tommy, please wake up. Tell him that you’re OK. Tell me that you’ll still take care of me. Please Baby, tell him." She pleaded beside his ear as she shook.

The detective let out a sigh and walked away towards his colleague who was standing at the bottom of the stairs. "She’s not taking it well. She won’t let anyone near them." He shook his head and looked back up on the porch. "Were you able to track down next of kin, Sara?"

"Only for her. He doesn’t have anyone."

"Are they coming?"

"Yeah, her brother. How are we supposed to get her away from him?" She asked as she looked at her partner.

"We can’t do anything till the brother comes. And if all else fails, we’ll wait ‘til she calms down a little and sedate her. We don’t have any other choice." Just as he finished speaking, a black town car pulled up along side the other stationary vehicles and two men got out. "This could be him now."

"What’s happened?" Lyle asked the two detectives that walked over to meet him and Sydney.

"I’m Detective Jake Timson and this is Detective Sara Burke. There was a murder…" The detective began to say before an outburst from Lyle cut him off.

"Parker!" He exclaimed as he looked up at the house before looking at the two people in front of him.

"No, it was Thomas Gates that was killed. She won’t let anyone near them." The detective stated as he looked at them solemnly.

"I’ll go and talk to her." Sydney walked away from them with Lyle following him. Lyle stayed on the steps while Sydney approached her. With the sight that greeted him, the old psychiatrist knew he had to treat this with care. "Parker?"

"Go away!" She cried out. "Why can’t you just leave us alone?"

"Parker, it’s me. It’s Sydney." He said compassionately as he knelt in front of her so she could see him.

"Sydney! Tommy won’t wake up! He fell and hit his head and he won’t wake up!" She whimpered like a wounded animal as she stroked Thomas’ lifeless head.

"Does he have a pulse?" Sydney asked softly. The way that Parker was curled up beside Thomas, holding him protectively as well as they she spoke about him as though he were still alive proved what Sydney first thought. She was in denial and shutting down.

"I don’t know! Why won’t he wake up? I want him to wake up!" She exclaimed as she looked at him through teary eyes but not really seeing him.

Sydney reached out and felt for a pulse though he knew there was no point. His skin was cool to touch. There was no pulse, but Sydney knew he had to do this carefully. "How about you go get dressed and let the paramedics take care of him?" He gently touched her cheek looking at the blood that covered her.

"You won’t let them hurt him? You’ll watch them?" She asked as fresh tears made their silent way down her cheeks.

"Yes Parker, I’ll watch over him." He said softly with a slight nod of his head as he signaled for Lyle to come over. "You go with Lyle and get dressed."

Parker looked up at her brother as he stood beside her. Lyle helped her to stand up while Sydney carefully moved Tommy away from her shoulder so she could get up. "So much blood. He only hit his head." She said in a small voice, shaking her head slowly while Lyle put an arm around her fragile form, walking her inside.

"Oh Parker." Sydney said sadly as the paramedics ran up to the house. "There’s nothing you can do, he’s been gone for a while, but I would hang around. Miss Parker’s not taking it well." Sydney said to the paramedics who were standing by, watching.

After walking her through the house, taking note that it looked as though a hurricane had gone through her living room, Lyle stood at her bedroom door while Parker stood just inside the door, looking at the blood on her hands. "You get dressed and I’ll be just outside." She nodded and walked further into as Lyle silently closed the door.

After only a few minutes had past, when he was going to knock on the door to see if she was all right, a scream and CRASH sounded from inside the room. When he flung open the door, Lyle saw her sitting in black tracksuit pants and a black tank top, in front of the broken mirror, surrounded by glass. Her right hand was all cut and bleeding as it rested limply in her lap. In her left hand she was clutching a red flannel shirt as she had her head hung down, crying.

Lyle rushed over to his sister’s sobbing form, bundling her into his arms before carrying her downstairs. "Hey! I need help over here!" Lyle called out as she sat her down on a seat on the porch as Sydney came over worriedly. The two paramedics ran up the stairs and started to clean up her hand, removing small shards of glass. When one of the men attempted to take the shirt out of her hand, she kicked them hard in the knee. "Let her have it." Lyle told them fiercely as he gently stroked her head while he sat beside her.

When she was all patched up, Lyle went to take the shirt out of her hand, but she wouldn’t let go. "I’m just going to put this on you. I won’t take it." He told her and she slowly let go of the shirt. Lyle opened it and put it around her shoulders, threading her arms through the sleeves before doing up three of the buttons to ensure it stayed on as well as kept her a little warm. "Come on, let’s get you to the hospital." He picked her up and walked down to his car.

"Sir, do you want to put her in the back?" One of the paramedics asked him as he indicated to the back of the ambulance.

"No." Was all Lyle answered before he placed her in his car. On his way passed the ambulance, Sydney got a blanket, and then he walked over to Parker. He knelt next to her and tucked it around her in the seat.

After Lyle closed the car door, he looked at the older man beside him. "Is she going to be all right?" He asked in a low murmur before casting a glance down at his sister who didn’t seem to be aware of her surroundings since she was looking at everything with dull eyes that refused to focus on any fixed point.

"I don’t know, Lyle. This has hit her hard." Sydney said just as quietly.

Lyle nodded, taking the answer for the time being. It was too soon to tell if his twin was going to be all right, but he didn’t think she would be. To see someone she loved gunned down that brutally wasn’t going to be an easy thing to deal with.

Lyle walked around the car, sliding behind the wheel as Sydney sat in the back behind Parker. Lyle turned the key in the ignition before looking at his sister sadly. He backed out of the driveway, turning sharply but without jolting the car and drove down to the hospital.

The steady drive into Blue Cove was made in complete silence. There was no need to drive fast since the only physical wounds that Parker had were on her hand but since they were wrapped up it was all right. Lyle didn’t want to rush her to the hospital since he knew she hated them, Hell he wasn’t found of hospitals either, and the state that she was in even though she was obviously shutting down, going to a hospital wasn’t going to help.

Blue Cove Memorial Hospital:
8:20a.m.

Lyle and Sydney were standing outside Parker’s room as they looked in through the window at her deadly still form. When they had arrived, it didn’t take long to get everything organized and have her admitted.

Parker was lying on the bed on her side, staring at the wall. The doctors didn’t find it necessary to change her, but they took Thomas’ red flannel shirt. Lyle didn’t know why they did that and he wasn’t sure if they knew either.

She hadn’t spoken a word since Sydney talked with her when they first arrived at the Manor that morning.

"Why won’t she talk?" Lyle asked as he watched her hawk-eyed with his arms folded across his chest.

"The mind is an amazing thing. It will do anything to protect its host, so in her case, she’s just shut down. She’s gone down deep, deep inside herself where nothing can touch her. Finding Thomas like that has just pushed her over the edge. She doesn’t want to get hurt again, so she’s just shutting down. She was trying to tell herself he wasn’t dead, that if she believed something so deeply that it would be true. Trying to keep people away from her and Thomas was like trying to stop the inevitable." Sydney said quietly, watching her deadly still form.

"I’ll be back in a minute." Lyle turned away abruptly, walking down to the nurse’s station. As he spoke with one of the nurses, he pointed down the hallway to Parker’s room. The nurse nodded and walked into another room that was connected with the front desk. She came back a few minutes later with Thomas’ shirt Lyle took it and walked back to the room with Sydney watching his every move.

"Wise move." He said with a nod.

"She wants this but those bastards took it from her." Lyle gritted out before he walked silently into his sister’s room, sitting down on the bed behind her back.

He didn’t say anything but draped it over her as she omitted a small whimper when her gaze focused on the material. "Shh, let me put it on." He carefully made her sit up and threaded her arms through the sleeves carefully like he had down earlier that morning. Parker wrapped her arms around her chest as she lied back down on the bed. Lyle removed his suit coat, putting it over her shoulders before gently stroking her head.

When she was still once more, Lyle got off the bed and walked to the door where Sydney was standing. "That might help a bit." Sydney said gently.

"I hope so. I don’t like seeing her like this."

"I don’t either." Sydney agreed solemnly.

When a movement out of the corner of his eye caught Lyle’s attention, he saw Mr. Parker rushing down the hall. "Great. That’s all she needs." Lyle muttered as he stepped into the hallway to meet his father.

"What happened?" He asked, looking into the room.

"Thomas was murdered. She found him. She’s going into shock." Sydney answered as he turned to look at the father while Lyle was discreetly standing between his twin and his father.

"Can I see her?"

"Yes, but don’t expect a response. She’s stopped talking. This has shattered her." Sydney replied as he took a step outside the room as Lyle sidestepped his father to allow him to enter.

Mr. Parker walked into the hospital room and sat in the chair beside the bed. He took her icy hand in his. "Angel. I’m here now, Princess." He gently stroked her cheek. She didn’t speak and she didn’t move. Looking into her eyes, Mr. Parker couldn’t see any life. "Honey, please say something." He pleaded as he brushed the hair behind her ear.

"Mr. Parker. She won’t talk, no matter how much you plead." Sydney said from the door.

"Just let her be for a little while. If we leave her alone she might come round." Lyle said to him knowing that even if she was left alone she wouldn’t talk.

"All right." Mr. Parker conceited as he stood, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead, as he rested her hand that he held back on the bed. "I want someone near her all the time."

"I’m not going anywhere. Go back to The Centre and I’ll look after her." Lyle said, knowing that his father really didn’t want to be here. Seeing his Angel weak and vulnerable was enough to make him disown her. This made Lyle angry. *She can’t be strong all the time you son of a bitch* He thought angrily.

"All right, but I want you to stay with her all the time." He said as he walked away.

"Just so you don’t have to do it, asshole." Lyle snarled quietly before looking in at his sister to make sure that their father’s presence hadn’t upset her but Parker didn’t look as though she was even aware that he had been there.

Blue Cove Memorial Hospital:
10:30p.m.

Lyle was sitting in the room with her. She hadn’t moved a muscle and the only indication she was alive was the rising and falling of her chest when she breathes and the blinking of her eyes. Lyle gently held her hand, minding the newly placed drip. She wasn’t eating or drinking and she was getting dehydrated, so the doctor thought it would be best if the drip was put in. They were also pumping drugs into her for the shock as well as sedatives to keep her calm.

Lyle didn’t know why they were even bothering doing this to her, the fluids were one thing but he thought the sedatives were completely uncalled for. Its not like she was going to go on a murderous rampage in the hospital. She was in shock! She wasn’t going to be doing anything other than lying still as death and not uttering a word. *Yeah that’s a real good call for sedation* Lyle though to himself bitterly.

"It’ll be OK Parker, try and get some sleep. I’m not going anywhere." He said softly as he gently stroked her head. Her eyes slowly closed after a few minutes. "Good girl."

Sydney appeared at the door. "How is she?" He asked the brother quietly.

"She just fell asleep. Can you sit with her while I go talk with her doctor?" Lyle asked as he stood waiting for Sydney to walk over.

"What about?"

"Wait a minute." Lyle carefully placed Parker’s hand in Sydney’s as he sat down. If she woke up slightly she would still feel a warm hand around hers, even though it wasn’t the same hand.

"Don’t take too long."

"I won’t."

Lyle walked down to the nurse’s station to see Dr. Mitchells was there. "Can I speak with you a minute?" Lyle asked shortly.

"Yes, Mr. Parker."

"About my sister. I want to take her home. She’s only here for observation that she doesn’t try and take her own life. She doesn’t want to be here, she’ll be happier if I take her home."

"I understand you want what’s best for Kade but you don’t understand the severity of her condition. We had to give her a drip. If you take her away from here where I’m monitoring her situation I can’t guarantee she’ll survive." Dr. Mitchells stated calmly.

"Don’t you dare call her by her first name you prick! I don’t care what you think. When I get her away from here she’ll improve. She doesn’t like hospitals and she sure as Hell doesn’t like doctors!" Lyle growled as he bristled threateningly. What gave this creep the right to call her by her first name?!

"If you take her out of my care I won’t be responsible for her condition when you bring her back."

"I WON’T be bringing her back. I’ll be able to get her to drink." The angry brother spat at the insolent doctor distastefully.

"Very well. I’ll organize the papers for her to be discharged tomorrow." He said, straightening his stance defensively before he turned around, walking away from Lyle in a huff.

Lyle smiled and walked back down to her room. "Well?"

"We’re leaving tomorrow ADA (against doctor’s advice)." Lyle said as he sat on the bed beside his sister. "How is she?"

"Still sleeping."

"Good. She needs to rest." Lyle gently touched her head.

Blue Cove Memorial Hospital:
8:36a.m.

Lyle was sitting on the bed next to Parker as they waited for the doctor. He told her that she’d be going home with him but Lyle couldn’t tell if she had heard or even understood him, because he didn’t get any response from her.

When Lyle stood up off the bed and was about to hunt down the doctor to demand answers why he was taking so long, the man in question finally walked into the room. "About time you came." Lyle hissed as he glowered down at the man. Lyle had a height advantage over the man and used it to the full extent.

"Yes. I’ve got some medications for Kade." He held out two little red bottles.

"I warned you about calling her by her first name, now didn’t I?" Lyle growled lowly as his eyes flared angrily.

"Sorry." The doctor said with a slight nod of apology but Lyle could tell the bastard was anything but sincere.

"What are they?" Lyle asked as he looked at them.

"Nitrazepam is to help her sleep. You’re to give her one before she goes to bed. It’ll take anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes to work. One tablet should keep on working for about 6 to 8 hours and she may experience the side effects for 24 to 36 hours. Now the Diazepam is a sedative for through the day to keep her calm. This gets given 1 to 4 times daily and every 5 hours. The tablet takes 30 minutes to work." The doctor explained. "Now do you still want to take her home?"

"Am I just about to kill you for drugging my sister like this?" He growled as he gently touched her head that remained slightly lowered.

"Do you want me to take her drip out?" The doctor asked as he indicated to the drip in the back of Parker’s hand.

"Fine." Lyle sat next to her, holding her right hand gently. The doctor started to take the drip out of her hand. "Do it gently or I will have to hurt you." Lyle warned as he watched intently. He nodded and started to take it out carefully.

The doctor stood up, dropping the needle in the small bin in the corner of the room before turning to look at Lyle. "You can take her home now. Even though it’s against my advice."

"I don’t care. I’m taking her home and away from morons like you." Lyle growled and stood, taking hold of Parker’s right hand in his left, making her stand up. As soon as she was on her feet, she started to sway slightly. "Come on, Kade I’ll take you home."

"She’s still under the effects of the drugs." The doctor told him when he saw the uneasiness his patient had to stay balanced.

"How much have you been sedating her?" Lyle chewed out hatefully.

"Enough." He answered simply.

Lyle snatched the release papers out of the doctor’s hand and left with a growl, his arm around Parker protectively as well as to steady her. Lyle handed the papers to the nurse behind the desk. "All right Mr. Parker, now if you’d like to wait a minute I’ll have a wheelchair brought round." The nurse said as she looked up at him after reading the papers and filling out the required forms.

"If you don’t mind I’d like to let my sister walk around, she’s still a little wobbly on her feet and I need her able to walk to get her up to my apartment." He flashed her one of his MOST charming smiles and he wasn’t disappointed for his efforts when the nurse just melted into a puddle of gray goop on the floor.

"All right." The nurse conceited as Lyle nodded and walked away.

"What happened about putting the patients in their places?" One of the other nurses asked after she watched her colleague cave in after the look she received from the attractive man.

"I’ve decided to make exceptions." She smiled and started to do paper work.

Lyle’s Apartment:
9:08a.m.

Lyle unlocked the door of his apartment and led Parker inside. When she stopped when he let go of her hand, Lyle turned around to shut and lock the door. "Do you wanna go lie down?" He asked gently as she walked in further to sit down on the couch, curling up in the corner. "All right." He replied when he received his answer.

When Lyle removed his jacket, he heard the rattling of the pills in his pocket, which also served as a reminder. He took them out of his pocket and looked at them then at Parker. "We don’t need these." He muttered to himself before walking into the kitchen to put them in the cabinet out of the way. While he was there, Lyle retrieved two glasses out of the cupboard and poured out some water that was in the fridge, before putting some ice in the glasses. When he walked into the living room and over to the couch where Parker was sitting, he sat his glass on the table before he held her hand, putting the glass of water in her palm and closing her fingers around it. Her eyes focused on her hand and as a result her grip tightened around the glass. "I haven’t drugged it. It’s just iced water."

She stared at the glass and then slowly took a small sip. Lyle smiled and sat back next to her.

A short while later Parker was sleeping. He took the empty glass out of her hand and sat it on the table. He stood and carefully lifted her into his arms and carried her into the bedroom, laying her down on the bed before covering her with a blanket. He gently stroked her head and left quietly, shutting the door behind him.

Lyle walked over and turned on the stereo and started to play soft music, so not to wake Parker. He sat down on the couch and relaxed.

Lyle’s Apartment:
11:45a.m.

Lyle looked up from where he was relaxing on the couch when he heard a sound from behind him. He saw Parker standing at the door listening to the music. "Like this, huh?" She didn’t answer him. "Do you want to come and sit down?" he asked as he turned around to face her completely. Parker silently walked over to the couch, sitting down beside him, curling up. "When will you start talking, Kade?" he asked quietly as Parker moved to rest her head against his shoulder, continuing to listen to the music. "OK, when you’re ready." He rested his head against hers as he gently touched her head. They sat in silence and listened to the music floating around them

Let me sail, let me sail, let the orinoco flow,
Let me reach, let me beach on the shores of Tripoli.
Let me sail, let me sail, let me crash upon your shore,
Let me reach, let me beach far beyond the Yellow Sea.

From Bissau to Palau - in the shade of Avalon,
From Fiji to Tiree and the Isles of Ebony,
From Peru to Cebu hear the power of Babylon,
From Bali to Cali - far beneath the Coral Sea.

From the North to the South, Ebudae into Khartoum,
From the deep sea of Clouds to the island of the moon,
Carry me on the waves to the lands i've never been,
Carry me on the waves to the lands i've never seen.

We can sail, we can sail...
We can steer, we can near with Rob Dickins at the wheel,
We can sigh, say goodbye Ross and his dependencies
We can sail, we can sail...

Lyle’s Apartment:
Four Days later:
8a.m.

Lyle was walking across the living room quietly since Parker was sleeping on the sofa bed when a knock at the door, echoed throughout the apartment.

KNOCK. KNOCK.

He walked over to the door and slid across the lock, opening the door to find Sam was standing there. "You sent for me, Mr. Lyle?" Sam asked. Any other time that Lyle had called him, Sam usually shows up and says ‘what do you want now?’ He didn’t have a problem speaking to Lyle that way because he wasn’t the one who held his loyalty in the palm of *her* hand (think about it). Sam had heard from the grapevine at The Centre what had happened and how Lyle was looking after his sister. This time was different to the other occasions that Lyle had called him.

Lyle stepped to the side in a motion for Sam to come inside. "I’m going to work today and I want you to stay with my sister." Lyle said, as they stood close enough to the couch to look over Parker’s sleeping form. "I just want you to watch her and make sure she eats something later. When she’s awake, there are some CDs in the stereo that seem to calm her down a little when she gets worked up."

"Is she still sedated?"

"No. She’s taking Thomas’ death hard enough without drugging her. The sedatives just make her more withdrawn. So I’ve stopped giving them to her. The doctor can cram it."

"All right, Mr. Lyle."

Lyle walked over to kneel down beside his twin, gently touching her head causing her to stir in her sleep. "I want you to lock the door after me and don’t let anyone in, especially my father."

"Yes Sir." Sam replied again, silently thinking that he’ll have to rethink the ‘Lyle situation’ towards his boss with the way he was treating her. Lyle left when he was satisfied that his sister was in safe hands. Sam walked over and locked the door quietly after Lyle had left.

Since Parker was still sleeping, Sam stepped out onto the balcony to leave her alone but he could still hear everything that was going on around him.

The Centre:
10a.m.

Lyle was in his office sitting behind his desk, looking at the paper work that had built up since he was looking over his sister when Mr. Parker walked in. Lyle looked up at who dared enter his office without knocking but when he saw his father his angry gleam didn’t improve, in fact it intensified. "How’s my Little Princess?"

"Like you care." He growled angrily.

"How dare you!" Mr. Parker slung back, completely taken by surprise by his son’s reaction to his sincere question.

"No! How dare YOU! You sit back and let someone else take care of her and then you have the nerve to come in here and ask me how she is." Lyle stood up and glared at him dangerously.

"That’s my daughter Goddamn it!"

"Go get fucked! You won’t get anywhere near her anymore. And if you do I’ll be right next to her, watching, and waiting to do something I have wanted to do since I got here!" Lyle slung back at him mercilessly. At any other time, Lyle would have been neutral towards the old man but after everything that had happened, Thomas’ murder and Parker’s breakdown Lyle had his first look at just how much Parker meant to their father and he didn’t like what he saw.

Lyle didn’t know if their father was involved in the murder, he was damned sure Raines was behind it, but Lyle wasn’t going to stick around and let him get close to his sister to find out just how deep the betrayal goes.

"Is that a threat?"

"What do you think? Now get out!" He yelled at him sharply.

"You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into!" Mr. Parker growled as his pale eyes narrowed warningly.

"No, you don’t have any idea what you’re getting yourself into! I have protection, Mr. Parker and I can easily give it to Kade to keep you away from her." He used the big guns by calling him ‘Mr. Parker’ and not ‘Dad’ or ‘Sir’. "Or maybe I’ll just get you taken care of." Mr. Parker left with a growl as Sydney and Broots slowly walked in, having had to step to the side in order not to get run over by the enraged man.

"Lyle?"

"She’s fine and thank you for asking." Lyle sat back down in his chair with a sigh. Sydney and Broots shared a look. *What the Hell is going on here?* They both thought as they looked at Lyle looking down at the papers on his desk.

Lyle’s Apartment:
7p.m.

Sam had been watching her closely but nothing had gone wrong. She still hadn’t spoken a word but she didn’t seem to mind that Sam was around. But how could you tell she was even aware of his presence?

Parker walked out onto the balcony and leant against the railing, looking down at the cars below. "Miss Parker." He came up behind her, watching her for any sudden movements but she didn’t turn to look at him, remaining still as death. "Kade?" He said somewhat apprehensively. He knew it was absolutely forbidden to say her first name but when she wouldn’t respond to formalities what else was he meant to try? Sam didn’t care if it meant his death; he just wanted to get Parker away from the railing. What surprised him after he saw her take a small breath Parker turned around to face him with dull eyes. "Could you come away from the edge please? I know you won’t jump but you’re making me very nervous."

Parker opened her mouth slightly but she shut it quickly as she stepped away from the edge, sitting down against the wall, peering up at the stars that were beginning to appear one by one. "What is it, Parker?" Sam asked as he knelt beside her but she looked at him without saying anything. "All right, when you’re ready." He nodded and sat down beside her. Parker looked at him silently before surprising him by resting her head against his arm, leaning into his side. He smiled and carefully put his arm around her shoulders causing her to lean into him more.

Lyle’s Apartment:
8p.m.

When Lyle walked through the door he couldn’t see or hear any sounds of the two occupants that should be there. "Sam? Kade?" he called out as he locked the door behind him before walking into the living room. Sam heard him call out but he couldn’t move because Parker was sleeping against his shoulder.

Lyle walked towards the balcony when he saw the door was slightly open and saw them, smiling down at his sleeping sister. "How’d you get her to attach?"

"I don’t know. I just sat next to her and she leant against my shoulder." Sam answered as her arms snaked around his neck and her leg locked around his making him stiffen instantly. "Ah Sir, would you be able to take her now? I don’t feel comfortable with what she’s doing."

"It’s all right, Sam. She won’t do anything else. It’s just to make sure you don’t go anywhere. And I think it makes her feel a little better." Lyle stated as he sat down on the other side of her, leaning back against the wall.

"What do we do about her Sir? If you don’t mind me saying so, it can’t be doing her any good keeping all this to herself."

"The police did the autopsy today. The funeral will be day after tomorrow." Lyle said absentmindedly as he looked up at the sky before looking at his twin.

"Do we tell her?"

"Have no choice. She deserves to know that he’ll be buried soon." He said quietly, watching her sleep trustingly against Sam’s shoulder.

"How is she gonna handle it?"

"Like everything else." He gently stroked her head. "With silence."

Blue Cove Cemetery:
2 days later:
4:30p.m.

Lyle, Parker and Sam walked over to the group of mourners. Most of them, correction, ALL OF THEM, are from The Centre, with only a few of Thomas’ friends. Sam stayed a few metres away while Parker stepped forward and stood next to the coffin. She rested a gentle hand on the cold metal oblivious to the people watching her. Lyle nodded for the priest to continue.

All through the service Parker stood next to the coffin, with her hand on it, looking at the cold silver. When people began to move away when the service had ended, Mr. Parker and Brigitte walked over to where Parker stood beside the coffin, not moving or speaking. Sydney and Broots stayed near by watching their proceedings. Their place was with their friend even though she wasn’t aware of their presence. "Angel, I’m so sorry."

When Parker didn’t show any recognition to the words spoken, Lyle stepped up next to her and held her hand. "Back off!" He snarled as his eyes narrowed to angry slits.

"I wasn’t talking to you, Lyle!" The father growled back at the son before he looked at his daughter. "Angel?" He gently touched her face making her increase her grip of Lyle’s, stepping away from Mr. Parker’s hand. A painful look crossed his face at the movement away from him.

"She doesn’t want you anywhere near her, and either do I, you left me in charge of taking care of her. You left it all up to me when you left the hospital. I’m taking better care of her now than you did her whole life!" He snarled at him angrily as she continued to look down at the coffin. "Sam, take Kade back down to the car." Lyle gave Parker’s hand a gentle squeeze and gave it to Sam.

Sam held her hand gently and waited till she was ready to move away. She ran her fingers against the coffin and gripped Sam’s hand tighter before turning away. They started to walk back down to the car with Mr. Parker glaring at Sam the entire time. "How dare you! He’s just a Sweeper!" He growled.

"Shut the fuck up!" Lyle hissed. "Why don’t you leave and let Thomas rest in peace?" Lyle suggested in a cold tone.

"I…You…You’ll pay for this Lyle. You have to learn that you can’t take my Angel away from me." He growled through clenched teeth and walked away with Brigitte following.

"Not yours." He looked at the coffin. "His."

Sydney and Broots walked over to him when all was silent once more. "Mr. Lyle."

"You two better come too. She’s gonna need all the friends she can get now." Lyle said as both Sydney and Broots nod in agreement. When the trio walked to the car, only to see Sam with his arm around her shoulders while Parker’s arms were folded across her chest, staring down at the ground.

"She just started trembling, Mr. Lyle. She’s not cold." Sam said.

"She’s coming back." Sydney said softly as he watched her shiver, as well as her eyes beginning to flicker the dullness was beginning to fade.

Lyle stepped up and touched her face softly. "Kadie, it’s all right now. Dad’s been put in his place." She didn’t say anything but began to shake violently. "Come here." He pulled her into a tight hug as he ran a soothing hand along the length of her back. "We’ll go home. You’ll be safe there. No more hurting."

A small whimper escaped her lips as she leant against her brother. "Shh." He started to slowly rock her to soothe her. "Just tell us and we’ll make it stop hurting." He said gently but she just shook her head. "All right. When you’re ready." He pulled away slightly and looked at her sadly. "My poor little Kadie." He gently touched her face, wiping a stray tear from her cheek. "Come on, we’ll take her home." Lyle said as the group got into their respective cars. Sam drove while Lyle sat with Parker in the back. Broots and Sydney went back to get their own car and followed behind.

Lyle’s Apartment:
6p.m.

Lyle held Parker’s hand as they walked inside. Sydney, Sam and Broots followed silently as the Sweeper closed the door behind them. "You go have a hot shower, OK?" Lyle suggested as he gently tugged her hand to get a response but there was none expect Parker walking away from them into the bedroom. They heard the bathroom door shut.

"It’s only gonna be a matter of time till she snaps and when she does it’s gonna be one Hell of a show." Lyle said as he directed them over to the couch.

The last time Broots was here was when Jarod gave them the lead to check out Lyle’s apartment about the missing Asian waitress, May Lin. He was a bit nervous about been here and having Parker staying with him and so vulnerable was giving him a bad feeling.

They sat down and waited.

9:30p.m.

When Parker emerges from the bedroom, having been either lying down or in the bathroom, they didn’t know she walked over to the couch to sit beside Lyle. Parker curled up in a ball in the corner of the couch and stared at the floor unseeingly. "Kade?" He questioned gently but she refused to look at him. "Kadie?" Lyle rested a gentle finger under her chin and tipped her face up to look at him. "You all right?" He asked but he could see the pain in her eyes.

"He’s not coming back, is he?" She asked in a small voice but it was a relief for everyone present to hear her voice, even if it did sound so sad and lost.

"No." He waited for the explosion.

"This isn’t a dream, is it?"

"No."

Parker released a breath and stood up from the couch, walking to the glass sliding doors that led onto the balcony. She crossed her arms in front of her and looked at the stars. "I’ll be outside." Sam stood up and left quietly when he shouldn’t witness what was going to happen. Broots went to leave as well but Sydney seized his arm in a firm grip. He got the message and stayed seated.

A small smile graced her lips. "On the night we talked, Tommy showed me the stars." She covered her mouth with a shaky hand as her bottom lip began to quiver and tears filled her eyes. "For once I felt…content." She started to flex her hand.

"Don’t put your fist through the glass." Lyle said gently. He knew what she was thinking. With her depending on him for the last few days, he was beginning to understand what she liked and hated and what she was about to do. Maybe this was the ‘twin bond’ that Sydney is continually chattering about.

Parker pivoted and smashed her fist against the cement wall. A wet SMACK and a loud CRACK were heard before she fell to the floor screaming, holding her hand. They all ran over to her. "I can’t take it! Physical pain I can handle! I can’t handle this." She buried her face in Lyle’s neck when he dropped beside her, hugging her tightly. She yelped and kicked at Sydney when he touched her hand making a renewed pain flare up. Lyle rested a hand on her knee as she tucked her leg under her while Lyle left his hand resting on her knee.

"She’s either broken or dislocated something, maybe both." Sydney said gently as Lyle nodded, continuing to hold her tightly and gently stroke her head.

"Why did they take him?" She cried but her words were muffled against Lyle’s neck.

"Let it out."

She went to touch her broken hand but Sydney stopped her. "Don’t touch it, Parker. Physical pain won’t help the emotional." He held her good hand tightly to prevent her from reaching out to touch the wounded one that rested limply in her lap.

She started to cry louder. "He didn’t even know my name! I didn’t tell him anything about me!" She held his hand so tight it made him wince.

"He knew you loved him." Lyle said gently above her ear.

"I didn’t tell him! Not ONCE!" She sobbed as Lyle started rocking her slowly to soothe her. "What’s Daddy done to me?"

"I don’t know Kadie, but he won’t do anything else to you." Her brother assured as he rested his head against hers gently.

"Daddy took Tommy." She whimpered.

"I know." He said sadly and began to gently stroke her back. Her painful sobs began to ease as she started to calm down with her brother’s gentle touch. "It’s OK Kadie."

"I miss him. I’ve never felt more alone." She whimpered as she shook her head. "Not since Momma died."

"But you’re not alone. We’re here with you." Lyle said to her softly.

"It still won’t take the pain away." She said softly, snuggling against his shoulder.

"Just give it time. It’ll get better."

"I’ve spent my whole life having people die all around me. Momma, Faith, Kyle and now Tommy. Am I cursing everything so the only thing the Powers That Be can do to me is make it hurt so much I just want to die?" She whimpered.

"You’re not cursing anything. It all has to do with Dad. He wanted to kill Mom…"

"You can’t finish that sentence! Kyle died because he was trying to get me away from you! Tommy died because of me. I wasn’t fighting him hard enough!"

"You couldn’t fight him because he brought to life a little flame inside of you that Dad was trying to destroy. You wanted freedom and he gave you that freedom and safety you craved."

"Look where it’s got me! He’s dead and I’m alone again!" She screamed and punched him after ripping her hand free from Sydney’s grasp.

"Kade, you aren’t alone now are you? You’ve got someone with you when you need them. Sydney’s always been there for you but Dad’s making you blind to the fact. Forget everything Dad has told you and focus on us."

She started to cry softly. "I just want it to stop hurting. Someone has just ripped my heart and soul out."

Lyle gently stroked her head and back. "I know."

"How about we take her to a doctor so they can have a look at her hand." Sydney said gently, seeing that she was starting to calm down.

"Yeah, you up to going to a doctor about your hand?" Lyle asked from beside her ear as she slowly nodded. "Come on then." Lyle carefully pushed her away from him before helping her to stand up. He wrapped his arm around her and started to walk her to the door, taking his coat from the rack and putting it around her shoulders as she nursed her wounded hand.

"What about you Lyle? It’s cold out there." Sydney said when he noticed that Lyle wasn’t going to be wearing a jacket.

"I’ll be fine." He said casually and walked out the door to find Sam standing in the hallway.

"Is everything all right?"

"Yes Sam, the wall was just the enemy for a minute. We’re just taking her to a doctor to check her hand." They stepped into the elevator.

The Hospital:
10p.m.

Lyle was sitting with his sister in a small waiting room while the others were in the main waiting room when Dr. Mitchells walked in. "Oh Christ." Lyle muttered when he saw the man that gave him so much trouble after Thomas’ murder.

"Well, well, well. I thought you said you wouldn’t be back." He said smartly.

"Why don’t you go get fucked?" Lyle snarled at him as Parker turned her head away from him disgustingly. "I’m not in the mood for your fucking bedside manner, we went to a funeral today, so don’t worry about me trying to rip your throat out."

"I’m sorry." Dr. Mitchells apologized, thinking that he better keep his mouth shut or he’d lose his head to the bad tempered man.

"Just look at my hand so I can get outta here!" Parker growled tiredly, not giving the doctor the justification of a glance.

"OK…" Dr. Mitchells walked over to where she was sitting and started to look at her hand.

The Hospital:
12a.m.

When Lyle and Parker finally came out into the main waiting room where the others were. Sydney was sleeping while Sam and Broots looked up at her quickly. "Well?" Broots asked as he stood.

"She’s just got a couple of hairline fractures. She has to keep the brace on and rest her hand." Lyle said as he put his jacket around her shoulders as she leant heavily against him but she was still swaying on her feet.

"He’s got me on more fucking drugs, but there’s this pretty little buzz in my head." She smiled, swaying slightly as her eyes flickered in and out of focus.

"She’s still a bit doped up, aren’t we?" Lyle gave her shoulders a squeeze as he smirked at the ‘happy’ side of his sister but he knew it would only last for as long as the drugs stayed in her system.

"Can we go home now?" She started giggling, but nothing was funny.

"Yeah. I wonder if all painkillers have this effect on her." Lyle smiled.

"If you want Mr. Lyle, I could carry her."

"It might be best. We don’t want her running into a wall then start laughing about how much it hurts."

"I wouldn’t do that." Parker said as she looked at him through half-opened eyes.

"In your current state, I’m not sure what you’d do." Lyle smiled as Sam walked over to her, moving an arm around his neck before swinging her up into his arms. Parker lowered her head down to rest against his shoulder as Broots nudged Sydney awake.

"Huh? Oh, how’d it go?" Sydney asked tiredly as he stood up, putting on his jacket.

"They’ve got her doped up. It’s quite amusing to watch too." When Lyle turned to look at his sister she was sleeping with her head resting on Sam’s shoulder where she placed it when he had picked her up. "Well it was." He said as he shook his head. "Come on, we’ll go." They leave the hospital when it was clear that there weren’t going to be any more disturbances for the night. It had been a long day and there was an early start to be back at The Centre in the morning.

Lyle’s Apartment:
12:45a.m.

Lyle unlocked the door and walked in followed by Sam who was holding Parker’s sleeping form in his arms. Sydney and Broots had cried off and went home since it was late and they were both tired. But before he left, Sydney said to ring if Lyle needed him, no matter what the time. "The bedroom’s down the hall, second door on the left." Lyle directed as he closed the door.

Sam nodded and walked down the hall, into the room. After he placed her carefully on the bed, he pulled a blanket over her before silently leaving the room. "You won’t need to come tomorrow, I’ll be staying with her."

"Yes Mr. Lyle." Sam nodded before leaving the apartment.

Lyle locked the door before walking into his sister’s room silently, standing at the door as he looked in at her, watching her. After he was positive she was sleeping soundly and she was safe, he went into the spare room to get some sleep. It had been a long day.

Lyle’s Apartment:
3a.m.

Parker was tossing on the bed, mumbling and whimpering in her sleep. When she suddenly sat up, she omitted a small, piercing scream, before jumping off the bed and ran out of the bedroom, into the living room and...

BANG!

Still in her sleep, she ran smack into the thick glass door trying to get onto the balcony. Upon hearing a noise that woke him startled, Lyle ran out of the spare room, over to where she was sitting, stunned on the floor.

Not really seeing who it was, Parker began to move away from Lyle before he grabbed her shoulders in a firm grip stopping her movements but she started to push him away. "Kadie, your OK, open your eyes." She ignored his words, though he didn’t know if she had even heard them and started to throw punches and as well as kicking at him violently. Lyle knew she was still in the nightmare, that she wasn’t actually fighting him but the demon that plagued her sleep. He pinned her to the floor to stop her from kicking him as well as to still her flying fists. "Kade, open your eyes." He ordered as she slowly stilled. "Open your eyes. You’re OK now, it’s over." Parker opened her eyes and looked up at him.

"I’m OK." She said, nodding slowly, looking up at him. He let her up.

"What was wrong?"

"I watched Tommy murdered. Someone was holding me back while a blurry figure killed him." Parker said with another slow shake of her head as he pulled her into a tight hug. "I can’t keep doing this. I can’t keep seeing him like that."

"Shh, it’s all right." Lyle held her against him tightly and reached for the phone that was on the table just beside them, dialing Sydney’s home number.

A weary voice answered the phone. "This is Sydney."

"Sydney, you said to call if I needed you, well I need you to get over here ASAP." Lyle said as he gently rocked Parker’s shivering form.

"What’s happened?" Sydney asked, a little more alert now.

"I’ll explain when you get here." Lyle said and hung up the phone. "Wait ‘til Sydney gets here, all right? Don’t go into your shell." Even as he was speaking to her, he knew that she was slipping back into her shell.

Lyle carefully lifted her up and sat her on the couch, wrapping the blanket around her tightly. As soon as he tucked the blanket around her, she stretched out and laid down on the couch. He noticed that her eyes were dimming. Lyle knew by the time Sydney got her, she would be closed off to everything and everyone around her.

Lyle’s Apartment:
1 hour later.

KNOCK. KNOCK.

Lyle ran over to the door and opened it and Sydney stepped in. "I’m sorry to wake you, Sydney, but she had a nightmare and she’s just shut down again. I knew it was possible that she could relapse, but I don’t know what I should do for her."

Sydney nodded and took off his coat, setting on the table as he walked past. He knelt down in front of Parker. She hadn’t moved since she was placed on the couch. Her eyes were vacant and dull as she stared at some invisible point in front of her. "Parker, I want you to focus on my voice." Sydney said and gently stroked her head. "I want you to push down the pain to a level you can handle and come back. You still need to find out who did this." Sydney was stroking her head in a hypnotic rhythm.

"What are you doing?" Lyle asked from beside him.

"Just trying to draw her out of the shell. She might not be responding but she can still hear what’s going on around her. You can usually help her by trying to draw her out of the catatonic state and ask her to push down the object that pushed her into the shell."

"It just seems to be making her worse." Lyle said from beside them as he looked down at his sister with sad eyes.

KNOCK. KNOCK.

Another knock came gently from the door before Sydney could respond. Lyle looked at Sydney who shrugged. Lyle walked cautiously over to the door and opened it only to see Jarod standing there. "I’ve come to help."

"She doesn’t need your help!" Lyle snarled, at him as a dark protective look crossed his face as he looked at the Pretender.

Sydney looked up when he heard Jarod’s voice and saw him with Lyle standing in the door blocking his entrance. "Lyle, they’ve been friends since they were children. Maybe Jarod could help. I am not having much success. She’s just gone deeper with me trying to draw her back."

Lyle thought about it for a moment before he moved to one side. Jarod took off his jacket and took Sydney’s place by her side only to see the dull, lifeless blue orbs staring up at him. "Be warned, I’m watching you." Lyle growled.

Jarod looked up at him and nodded. "Parker, I am here to help you. I just want you to trust me and do what I tell you all right?" He said in a gentle voice. He rested a gentle hand on her eyes and closed them. As soon as his hand moved away her eyes snapped open. "Trust me, nothing will happen, now close your eyes." He put his hand back over her eyes. This time when he took his hand away, her eyes stayed closed. "Good girl, Parker. Good girl." Jarod praised and pulled the blanket away from her. Her eyes fluttered were about to open until Jarod rested his hand gently on her eyes. "No, keep them closed. You’ll be all right."

"What are you doing?" Lyle growled in a low voice not liking one thing he was doing with his sister. He didn’t know what he was trying to do and this just made Lyle’s protectiveness of his sister escalate.

"Just watch." Jarod said without looking up. "Parker, I want you to find your fondest memory before everything went bad. I want you to hold onto it and just focus on how you felt." He said as started to rub her back in a slow motion, along her ribcage, then moved onto her stomach, using the same gentle rhythm.

"What’s he doing?" Lyle asked as he came and stood beside Sydney.

"Lowering her defenses." Sydney said in a hushed tone.

"Parker, tell me what you’re thinking about." Jarod said when he felt her breathing change. She was relaxing.

"Momma…Tommy…" She murmured, relaxing further into the couch.

"Why?" Jarod murmured next to her ear.

"They left me…They said they wouldn’t hurt me…"

"It wasn’t they’re fault, Parker." Jarod gently stroked her back.

"I know but why do I feel like I should’ve done something!" She opened her eyes and looked at him. Unshed tears glistened in her eyes. "I could’ve have protected him! I never told him I loved him! I never told him my name!" She sat up and started to punch his shoulder until he grabbed her hands in a firm grip.

"He knew everything you wanted to tell him, but couldn’t." Jarod promised her.

"I should’ve told him!" She started fighting again. She didn’t stop until Jarod pulled her down onto his shoulder and restricted her movements.

"It’s all right." Jarod gently rubbed her back to stop her tears.

Lyle pulled Sydney to one side, while watching Jarod with his sister. "Well?"

"She feels like she just stood back and let him be murdered. Her subconscious as well as her conscious mind, feels responsible for his death. The only way she can try and cope with his murder is with guilt. More than likely, her mind has made the blurry figure out to be her father. When she was with Thomas, your father still had a lot of control over her." Sydney says.

Lyle looked over at her sitting on the couch, hanging her head down. Jarod was kneeling in front of her, holding her hands. Lyle knew what was on her mind, so he walked over to her and held her hands tightly. When she looked up at him, her eyes were dull and miserable. He knew he was right. "How are you holding up?"

"I don’t know but I want to go back." She whimpered. "I can’t do this anymore."

"I know, but I’m here and Sydney will help get you through this."

"So will I." Jarod said from in front of her.

A sad smile crossed her face. "I’m meant to catch you."

"Not until you’re better. Then I’ll be gone so fast you won’t see anything but dust." He joked. She smiled and leant forward, resting her head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around her tightly. Even though she was hurting and crying, she was still so beautiful. And having her wrapped up in his arms felt so…right. He knew it was wrong, she was just starting to grieve for Thomas and he was his friend, but he had loved her since he met her in the SIM Lab. The scent of her hair filled his nostrils but he knew he shouldn’t get used to it since it will only be a matter of time before everything went back to normal. Out of the corner of his eye, Jarod could tell Lyle was watching him closely, for any signs that he was about to hurt his sister.

That was the last thing on Jarod’s mind. He didn’t mean for her to get hurt when he sent Thomas to her, but she did and it was all his fault. He thought that if he couldn’t be with her, he would send someone else in his place to take care of the woman he loved as much as his family. Maybe more so. She was like breathing. He couldn’t live without air and he couldn’t live without her. He didn’t even want to think about it. He knew that she felt that way about Thomas but that was short lived, so she was now shutting down to anyone who showed her the slightest amount of affection to keep herself protected.

After what has happened, the *Ice Queen* has a large gash in the shield that was protecting her heart which is making the rest of the shield crumble away. But from a distance, Jarod was going to protect that dent in the shield until it could be rebuilt. She would still need the shields and barbs while she stayed at The Centre. Without them, she wouldn’t last five minutes.

She slowly pulled away and stood up to walk over to the door. She opened it and stepped out on to the balcony. Lyle got her dressing gown and put it over her shoulders. He wrapped his arms around her from behind. "We’ve had a tough life, haven’t we?" She nodded and leant against him. Jarod got up and sat on the couch, watching them while Sydney came over and stood behind him, watching the twins.

Later that night after Sydney and Jarod had gone; Parker was still standing on the balcony with Lyle beside her. She sees a shooting star. She told her brother that she saw a shooting star on the night with Thomas. Lyle tells her that it’s Thomas and that he’ll be watching her and smiling, as he put his arms around her and held tightly.

Lyle leaves her for a minute. He comes back with a Valium and a glass of water. "I don’t want to do this but you need to get some sleep." She looked at the little white pill then him. She turned her back on him. "I need to remember what happened. You can’t trash a house quietly."

"We could get Angelo to empath it."

"He’s not allowed out of The Centre."

"I’ll get him out for a little while." They stood there in silence until they saw the sun beginning to make an appearance.

Parker Manor:
The Next Day:
2:35p.m.

Lyle held Parker’s hand as they entered the house. He knew it was going to be painful for his sister but he also knew she had to face her demons to defeat them. But who said she had to face them alone?

"Bad men. Cause pain. Angel hurting. So much pain." Angelo said as he walked in with Sydney beside him.

"Angelo, about the bad men, who are they?" Sydney asked as Lyle turned around to face the empathic.

"Bad men kill. Cause Angel pain." Angelo said shaking his head sadly, tears building up with tears. All he could feel was Parker’s pain. It was like been buried alive.

"Sydney take Kade outside. Angelo is only reading her pain since it’s so strong." Lyle said, letting go of his sister’s hand.

Sydney walks over and takes Parker’s hand, walking her out the back door. They were standing on the corner of the porch while Parker was staring at the spot where she found Tommy. She starts having flashbacks of when she with Tommy. Every time she had the feeling of been watched. "Parker?" Sydney said seeing how she just stared at the corner. Parker ignores him and walks over and knelt down where she had found Thomas. "Kade?" Sydney walks over to her. She stands up and walks back inside and past Lyle.

"What’s wrong?" Lyle asked, seeing them come back inside. Parker had a distant look on her face.

"I don’t know." Sydney said stopping beside the couch.

"Flashes." Angelo says, watching her pace around the room slowly, stopping every now and then, only to spin round to face something that wasn’t there. "Voices guiding Angel."

"Kade, what do you see?" Lyle asked gently, seeing that she was trying to concentrate on something just out of her reach.

"Someone’s watching. All the time. Eyes everywhere." Parker said shaking her head to try and clear it. Just when she as about grab onto something that could possible answer everything something else would push it out of the way.

"Who’s watching you? Is it Dad?" Lyle walks over to her. She was starting to stress out with the riddles that she was getting.

"Not Daddy." She closes her eyes and focuses. The day that Tommy came to The Centre to speak to her floated through her minds-eye. She remembers going down the stairs and talking to him. When she turned around to walk up the stairs her minds-eye flashed up onto the balcony that was above her, overlooking the Concourse. She sees Raines watching looking down at her before stepping back. Her mind started flashing back and showed that it was Raines. She gasped and starts to cry.

"Kade, open your eyes, your OK. Come on, snap out of it." Lyle says, touching her shoulder. Parker opens her eyes. The blue fiery orbs that stared at him were filled with pain and anger. "Dad?"

"No. Raines. Raines killed Tommy. He was watching us when Tommy came to The Centre after I picked the fight with him. He killed him...WHY?" She lowered her head and cried. Lyle bundled her up in his arms and held her tightly, gently swaying her from side to side.

"Shh, it’s gonna be all right." Lyle said gently.

"I thought it was Daddy! I was so cold to Daddy!" she cried, locking her arms around his neck.

"So was I, but when we go back, we’ll apologize, all right?" He rested his chin on her shoulder.

Angelo walked over and rested a gentle hand on her head. "Angel sad. But better soon. Friend knows and will forgive."

"Forgive what?" Lyle pulled away. "What has Thomas got to forgive you for?"

"I’m gonna kill Raines." she murmured in a tired voice.

"Not until we get answers."
