The
Truth
Part
13
by Sara,
Barbara and Vania
When they arrived Maine, they went to Ben Miller's house,
but when they got there they found only ashes. To find what happened, Miss
Parker went to talk with the town sheriff.
"Well! Miss..." Sheriff Adams said.
"Parker. Miss Parker"
"You remind me of someone..."
"Probably my mother. She used to spend some time
here before I was born."
"Probably. I remember some lady from Delaware that
used to come here now and then. That was 40 years ago... But, what was it that
you wanted?"
"I would like to know what happened to Ben Miller. I
went to his house and it was burned."
"You knew him?"
"He was a friend of my mother's. She was the one
that used to come here now and then."
"That was a tragedy. He was kidnapped and killed 6
years ago, and to cover their tracks, they burned up the house. The body was
never found."
"Then how do you know he's dead?" Kate asked.
"There was an old lady in the woods that watched
everything, including his death. She couldn't do anything, because they were
some pretty terrifying guys. One with the name Willie, she said."
"What?!" Miss Parker said.
"Why? Do you think you know him?"
"Maybe. But first I need to be sure. I'll come back
in a few days to tell you the whole truth."
"But why did you come here anyway?"
"I have reasons to believe that Ben Miller he's my
real father and not the man I called "daddy" for 40 years."
Saying this, Miss Parker and Kate left the police
station. Kate looked to her mother and said:
"I know the feeling. People telling us that our
parents are other people, not telling us the truth. They told me my parents died
when I was a baby."
"But I learned the truth too late."
"And now you want to find out the truth about
Grandpa's death like you found out about Grandma's."
"And the worse thing is that they are the same ones
- my father and Raines."
"What do you mean?"
"About 6 years ago, I've been here looking for clues
on my mother's murder."
"And...?"
"I found out that time that I could be Ben Miller's
daughter."
"Maybe Mr. Parker and Raines were afraid of you
finding the truth about the real identity of your father."
"What if I had found the truth when he was still
alive?"
"You'd walk out of The Centre because you'd have no
more bonds there. The Chairman would no longer be your father. If you knew that
Mr. Parker wasn't your real father, wouldn't you've left The Centre?"
"Probably. My only worry was to please my
father."
"Yeah. And Raines and Parker knew that."
"Ahh! Let's go back to The Centre and find some responsibilities."
"Let's see if we can send some more to the
Feds."
"Yeah."
