In the meantime, while Miss Parker had her conversation
with Lyle, Kate was in Miss Parker's new office when Mr. Raines walked in,
visibly angry.
"Why did you capture Lyle?"
"Because he was a danger to The Centre and we cannot
leave loose ends." Kate answer prontly.
"Since when decisions are made at The Centre without
my knowledge?"
"Since Mr. Parker died and you are not important
anymore."
"I'm not important?!!! I'm the only and real power
that be!"
"You are?! At The Centre, there is no longer fear of
the powers that be!"
"Really?! Don't tell me you're not
afraid?"
"I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid of the power given
by money or from its position in life, I'm only afraid of the power given by a
superior mind, that is, I'm only afraid of people with a mind more briliant than
mind and there is only one: my father."
"What?!"
That was when Miss Parker arrived to the office and gave
onde of her looks to Raines and said:
"Who do you think you're talking to?"
"To a Centre propertie." Raines
answered.
"What?!" Miss Parker asked "Well, I should
tell you that Kate, Centre propertie like you said, is the heiress of The
Centre..."
"If The Centre would still exist when the time
came." Kate said with a fake smile on her lips.
"The Centre will always
exist." Raines said.
"Don't be so sure about
that!" Miss Parker said
and then continued "I have taken the decision to dissolve The Centre, and
my decision stands. All the archives were taken, the workers of this hell are
already informed that they're out of work, I'm working on the atribution of good
indemnities, I already called the FBI to give them Lyle. In short, there will be
no loose ends in The Centre and I'm stanting a new life with my daughter and my
brother."
"And, by the way, with Jarod,
right?!" Mr.
Raines said.
"And why not? He's the father of my daughter and I
don't intend to keep them separated. I don't have that right. About a life
together, that is not of your business, Mr. Raines. But Jarod will have all the
freedom he wants, and I already gave him all the files on his family."
"What?" Raines said "I won't have my
labrat?!"
"NEVER!!!" Kate said.
"You better watch yourself if you don't want
to end up in prision with you oxygen tanks." Miss Parker said.
"Humm!" And Mr. Raines
left.
Miss Parker hugged Kate and said to
her:
"I'm going to build a new life to both of
us."
