The Truth

Part 9

by Sara, Barbara and Vania

When they arrived to Chinatown, all the elite sweeper teams were already there, and it wasn't very hard to find out where he was. An finger-less Occidental man was not an usual thing to see.

As soon as they entered the building, the amount of Chinese women that were in there was amazing. They were, at least, five in each compartment (it was a three room house). Miss Parker and Kate had their hand in their stomach because of the nausea they were feeling.

Lyle and his Chinese women were all taken to The Centre to interrogation. This job was done by Miss Parker herself, that decided to interrogate first the fifteen women, because this way she should be able to have something to support herself when interrogating her "dear" brother Lyle.

None of the Chinese women spoke English, so Miss Parker served herself of her linguistic qualities to interrogate them, and the information she achieve were, at least, weird, since they told her that there was this guy, Gar, that went to China and brought twenty five Chinese women to Dream Land, with the promise that they would have good jobs in a company with contacts with China - The Centre. When they finally arrived to America they were delivered to the then highest operative of The Centre, Mr. Lyle. But he was supposedly murdered by Miss Parker and he started living in the shadows and, then, to win some money, he sold ten of them as slaves to some guys of Middle Orient.

But Lyle's life turned upside down once again and he was back again as one of the most important operatives of The Centre, because he was the Chairman's lost son, and they all went to live in some mansion where Mr. Lyle used to spend his free times.

Some time later, Bobby Lyle was banished of The Centre and they all went to Chinatown, along with a British occidental woman that seemed not to care about her Husband's little fancies.

Kate also wanted to interrogate Lyle, but Miss Parker didn't let it, because she was afraid that the interrogation would become a struggle and she didn't want to expose her daughter to that kind of situation. When Miss Parker got into Lyle's cell, he said:

"Long time, no see, sis. How've you been?"

"I was a lot better before you call me sis." She sarcastically answer.

"Bad hair day?"

"I've got to confess that I was a lot better before I interrogated your fellow Chinese."

"Oh! They are only house keepers."

"Five in each room! It must be a very clean house."

"Of course it is. I love cleanings. I would never be able to live with someone with blue color dirt under the fingernail but crap refrigerator repairman type."

That left Miss Parker on the edge, because she remembered when Brigitte used that same words to describe Thomas, her love, for whom she missed every day after all these years.

"What's your point, Lyle?"

"Just showing I'm superior."

"Oh! Marry Chinese mail order brides and then kill them. Commit adultery with your own stepmother. To live with fifteen women in the same house. And misrepresent a person who is already dead, that in life had nothing against you. You really must be a superior being."

"See?! Even you admit it yourself."

"For God sake, Lyle!" Miss Parker said "You're only a devil that was born from an angel."

"Always in our mother's defense."

"You don't even dare to say "our" mother. She may have only give you life, but if you had something from her, the Himalayas would be a tropical seaside resort. Either way, you are no longer a Centre business, so I'm going to give you to the Feds. They will know what to do with you."

"You can't do that! If you give me to the police, the tracks lead back to The Centre!"

"There will be no tracks. I decided, this morning, to put an end to The Centre. There will be nothing that the Feds could pick up to condone anyone."

"That can't happen! The Centre will never loose its power! We are the powers that be! Nothing can happen to us!"

"We?! Prepare yourself, Lyle, because I have some doubts you will ever escape the Dead Corridor."

And saying this, Miss Parker turned her back to Lyle with the intention of never seen him again.
